    Frequently Asked Questions

    FAQs

If you’re looking for a hypoallergenic dog food or cat food, then Scrumbles is appropriate. All of our recipes are hypoallergenic and designed for easy digestion. We use a limited number of quality ingredients. Hypoallergenic effectively means “less likely to cause an allergic reaction”. We avoid common allergens like beef, pork, dairy and gluten. If your cat or dog has a particular allergy or intolerance, be sure to check our ingredients on the back of pack.

Hypoallergenic dog food and grain free aren't the same thing. The former means the recipe is free from common allergens, whilst the latter specifically just refers to the recipe being free from grains.

Most pooches don't have any food intolerances or sensitivies, and can enjoy a varied and balanced diet. (Of course avoiding any ingredients that are harmful or toxic to dogs.) However, whilst rare, some pooches do need to avoid certain ingredients. In these cases it's always best to look that the recipe doesn't include the specific ingredient you must avoid, rather than just being labelled as hypoallergenic.

Itchy skin is most commonly caused by environmental sensitivities. However, in rare cases, it can be related to diet. If this is the case, then the best food will be one that avoids the specific ingredient identified from an elmination diet.

You have sharp eyes! We’re not fans of the phrase hypoallergenic, as in reality anything can be an allergen so it’s important to review the list of ingredients in your cat food fully to ensure it doesn’t contain anything that might upset your cat’s tummy.

We do not offer Hydrolysed dog food. Hydrolysis is where the proteins are broken up into smaller pieces that the body cannot recognise. This prevents the proteins from triggering an adverse reaction in your pooch. In reality, this is therefore the only true meaning of the word “Hypoallergenic”. There is some controversy around the nutritional value that hydrolysed diets offer and whether dog's find them as palatable.

Our full range of dog and puppy treats are "hypoallergenic", or free from the common allergens soy, gluten, eggs, dairy and red meat as we prefer to say. Whether you're after "hypoallergenic" dental sticks for dogs or "hypoallergenic" dog training treats, we've got the treats for you!
