Our Recipes
Unfortunately, sometimes one bad experience can sometimes lead to your pup avoiding their meals, also known as food aversion. Pooches and kitties may refuse to eat food with a taste, texture or smell associated with the bad experience and continue to refuse to eat it even when they are feeling better. Certain cats and dogs are pickier than others and some may need more time to adjust to new things. Our pet pawrents have given us really great feedback about the palatability of our meals, and we believe that we are quite different to anything else on the market
All our recipes follow a pollo-pescatarian diet and are free from common allergens such as soy, dairy, gluten, egg and red meat. We have single source options for many of our wet food range and more limited ingredients again for the more sensitive of floofs. It’s important to know that anything can technically be an allergen, so it’s important to look at the ingredient list to ensure our recipe meets your floofs needs.
Every cat and dog is different, and we recommend transitioning over a period of 7 to 10 days if you’re new to Scrumbles. It’s normal for tummies to adjust during this time and you may notice stool variation. Many customers see a result within the first few days of use, however it can take a couple of months for full results to be seen.
Probiotics are microorganisms found in your pet’s body. You might have heard of probiotics referred to as “good” and “friendly” bacteria. Probiotics help digestion and balance your pet’s gut flora.
A lot of people confuse the two, but Prebiotics and Probiotics are not the same thing. Each play different roles for your pet’s digestive system. We add probiotics to all of our dry food recipes for happy tums and pick-up-able poops. Gut bacteria really are your pooch’s and kitty’s best friend, and have a big part to play in your dog’s overall health. If you’d like to know a bit more about pre/probiotics and how they affect your pet’s health, why not have a look at one of our blogs?
We use free run chicken and turkey which is highly digestible for cats and dogs. All of the meat used comes from a slaughterhouse intended for human consumption (declared high quality and disease free). Contrary to popular myths, this isn’t bad meat that’s got feathers and beaks. UK laws protect against this so you can rest assured that you’re getting the excess meat that we as humans don’t need, kind of like wonky vegetables that supermarkets are now selling. Just as nutritious.
We’re very picky about our pet food and even pickier about who we work with. All our suppliers are subject to an approval process with rigorous checks throughout so that we’re happy they meet our requirements. We implement a number of measures to ensure we receive no GMO raw materials;
Risk assessments, written declarations from suppliers to confirm no GMO materials are supplied to us and audits, to ensure full traceability of our supply chain.
So in a nutshell no 🙂

Feeding Your Pets
To avoid an upset tummy, it’s best to switch you cat or dog gradually from their old food over a period of 5-7 days, or up to two weeks for puppies or kittens. Do so by gradually increasing the proportion of Scrumbles to their old food until you get to 100% Scrumbles.
"Single-source protein" refers to recipes that are formulated using only one type of animal protein.
Of course you can! Do check the ingredients for the recipes you’re interested in so you know if they’re suitable for your cat or dog. Why not try our feeding calculator to give you a guide on ratios and portion sizes for dinnertime!
Feeding the correct amount for your cat or dog is important in maintaining good health, however the amount varies according to size, body condition, age and lifestyle. Use our feeding calculator to guide you on the feeding quantities.
All our recipes are suitable for all life stages and breeds, so the decision is really up to you and your floof. We typically see pet owners move them on around the age of 1 years old. Don't forget to transition again to help ensure no upset tummies.

Our Sustainability
At Scrumbles we hold ourselves as a company and as individuals to the highest standards of ethical business conduct and are a certified B Corp. We work to create mutually beneficial business relationships with diverse suppliers that help create a better world around us. Our supplier diversity policy’s primary goal is to give preference to suppliers owned by women, minorities or other underrepresented populations where they fulfil our purchasing requirements. Sign up to our newsletter to receive our annual report tracking our performance on this and other goals.
We are committed to helping the world around us and thoughtful about our impact choosing only to work with suppliers that share our ethos.
How our food is made: We’re mindful of recycling when manufacturing our food and chose our manufacturing partner thoughtfully. The plant reaches a 98% total recycling figure with aims to further reduce the remaining 2% of waste sent to landfill.
How we work: Our office is mobile with our mindful approach to travelling with us. We operate paperlessly with the few bits that are printed on recycled paper. When we travel, we mainly stick to public transport.
Our packaging: When choosing the packaging for our food, we were overwhelmed by the amount of plastic in the market. We saw that a few paper bags existed but found that these compromised the quality of the food. E.g. where there are high meat contents the lack of moisture barrier can cause the food to go rancid, which would not be a happy cat or dog make! Our bags are packaged in a paper/plastic mix with a minimal layer of plastic to maintain freshness. We’re working closely with our lovely packaging suppliers to develop an earth-friendly alternative that doesn’t compromise on the quality of the food. Watch this space as an exciting alternative will shortly be available that still allows us to give you yummy good food. We’re naturally curious and constantly evolving our thinking to see how we can make further improvements.
As animal lovers, we don’t participate in any invasive animal testing and we hope to encourage others to do the same.
Our recipes are designed to put cats and dogs first and come with approval from Smudge, Boo and a few of their furriends, who have taste tested in the comfort of their own home with us.
We include meat in our foods as this is critical to deliver optimal nutrition for cats and dogs. For example, cats are obligate carnivores and need meat protein. The nutritional requirements for cats and dogs make vegetarian and vegan diets inappropriate.
Our ultimutt dream is for the clean meat movement to become accessible for cats and dogs.
We’re a proud B Corp and donate 1% of our sales towards environemental and social causes to help those who need us most. We work closely with the wonderful people at All Dogs Matter and The Cat Welfare Group feeding their floofsters and raising awareness and funds to support the great work they do. Please check them out!
As animal lovers, animal welfare is close to our hearts. We test all of our recipes on our family pets, Smudge and Boo and then share it with select friends and family before signing off. Scrumbles are listed on the PETA website for “Non-Animal tested Companion Animal Food”
We’re also members of the Pet Industry Federation (PIF) a leading trade organisation which monitors and influences animal welfare within the industry.
We’re keen to guarantee adventures for many more generations of cats and dogs and as well as treading more lightly on the planet, we work with key charity partners to help us achieve this like All Dogs Matter.
A lot of our products contain meat and we’re conscious about the meat we use. Our recent life cycle assessment showed that animal agriculture has the greatest environmental impact. In order to get the full spectrum of amino acids, cats and dogs need animal protein but there are efforts to minimise our impact here. We use human grade ingredients as part of our raw materials which are surplus to the human food chain due to commercial reasons. We try to source all of our meats from the UK – our range of wet dog food is all British meat and we’re working to solely source British meat for our range of dry cat and dog food as well. All the meat we use is free run rather than from caged animals and comply with the European Convention for the Protection of Animals kept for Farming Purposes to ensure high animal welfare standards.
Scrumbles is owned by pet parents Jack and Aneisha. Founded in 2018 by the duo in response to their rescue cat and dog suffering from continual periods of upset tums.
As eco-warriors, we strive to be as responsible and sustainable as we can. Different products bring about different challenges. Our full range of packaging is recyclable, excluding the film on our wet food, which is our final frontier to overcome. Stay tuned as we're on the prowl for a recyclable alternative!
Scrumbles make the majority of their recipes locally in the UK, using responsibly sourced and local ingredients wherever possible.
No! You've likely seen in the news the devastating impact Palm Oil farming has had on tropical rainforests and the endangered species who habit them. That's why we don't use palm oil in any of our products, and never will.
